Bandar Seri Begawan – People in Brunei will have the opportunity to witness a partial eclipse of the sun on Friday afternoon, January 15.
The phenomenon will begin when the moon made its first contact with the sun at exactly 3.45 p.m. local time.
The maximum eclipse will come at 4.42 p.m. where by about 12.8% of the Sun disk is obscured by the moon. The 1 hour and 48 minutes celestial event will end at 5.33 p.m.
Eclipse observers are advised not to look at the sun directly at any time during the eclipse as it may damage the eyes.
The Astronomical Society of Brunei Darussalam in liaison with the Survey Department will hold a public eclipse-watching at the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Shopping Complex on January 15, from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m.
